Plant-Based Medicine

Since November 2016, medicinal cannabis has been legal in Australia and can be a suitable treatment option for certain health conditions. At Grand Boulevard Health Care Centre, our doctors can discuss medicinal cannabis as an alternative treatment for your condition, and we welcome both new and existing patients interested in exploring this option.

Medicinal cannabis is made by combining various chemicals with cannabis that is grown specifically for medicinal use. The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) imposes strict certification requirements for all medicinal cannabis products produced in and imported into Australia to ensure quality and safety. The product prescribed by our doctors and dispensed from the pharmacy is formulated securely and regulated for quality assurance.

The primary chemicals used in medicinal cannabis are Delta-9-tetrahydrocannbinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD). THC is a psychotropic cannabinoid compound known for its analgesic, antiemetic, antispasmodic, and psychotropic effects. CBD is a non-psychotropic compound known for its anti-inflammatory, anticonvulsant, antioxidant, antianxiety, and sedative effects.

In managing a patient’s medical conditions and symptoms, the ratio of THC to CBD is a primary focus.
